OUR STORY BEGINS WITH twist
WE MET
We met in August of 2021 when A.J was completing his family medicine residency and McKensie was in her final year of pharmacy school on clinical rotations. For our first date, we had planned for a restaurant that we didn’t realize was actually closed that day until A.J. parked right in front of it. We made the spontaneous decision to go to a restaurant down the street, Bakersfield, which is now our favorite restaurant in Indy and where we go to celebrate all of our special occasions. We followed dinner with a walk through the Indianapolis War Memorial and drinks at 16-BIT arcade bar.
ENGAGEMENT
We got engaged in November of 2023. A.J. was working in Milwaukee, and McKensie was finishing her residency in Chicago. We planned a weekend trip to Indy where we stayed at Bottleworks Hotel on Mass Ave. A.J. recreated the walk we took on our first date through the War Memorial, where he then proposed. After, we headed to Bakersfield (of course) to celebrate with a pre-dinner drink. This plan was upended when our waiter brought us unexpected tequila shots, which we could not decline. We then made our way to Ruth’s Chris for a delicious steak dinner, although McKensie was a little wobbly. We were able to finish out the weekend by celebrating our engagement with some of our closest friends that live in the area.
